Sharps and infectious material, expired and cytotoxic pharmaceuticals, laboratory reagents and fixatives, mercury from legacy devices, pressurised cartridges and radioactive residues from nuclear medicine each carry a different hazard and a different legal route. Volumes per site are modest, which is exactly why they get consolidated badly.
